1:Can I take up C.A. studies after my B Sc degree (without Maths). Which institution should I join for the course?

Non-commerce graduates with subjects other than Mathematics and with a minimum of 55% of the total marks may join the Chartered Accountancy course directly into the PE (II) stage (as per prevailing system of CA education). Registration is open throughout the year. C. A. Education and Training is conducted by The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI),P O Box-7100, Indraprastha Marg, New Delhi-110 002(www.icai.org).
2:I am a commerce graduate and want to become an actuary. How do I acquire the necessary training?

An aptitude for mathematics is a must for all prospective actuaries and you must be prepared for concentrated deskwork. Log on to the website of The Actuarial Society of India, Mumbai www.actuariesindia.org for details of training.
3:I am in B.Com interested in a career in banking. What are the placement options and routes ?

A career in banking can mean starting at the clerical level or the officer level. Clerical level entry is open to students who have completed Intermediate/ preferably graduation and possess typing /stenography skills plus computer skills. Private sector banks usually do not have any clerical cadre entry. For entry into public sector banks expect to appear for competitive examinations in the respective region. For Officer cadre entry, private and public sector banks conduct a competitive selection, the Probationary Officers’ examination announced in the national dailies for public sector banks and internally organised by each private bank as per vacancies. Finally, there is the personal interview. All these banks also recruit specialists such as engineering, MCAs, MBAs, Economists, Statisticians, Chartered/ Cost Accountants, etc., for which a separate channel of entry exists. MBAs or working professionals from the public sector banks may join private sector banks and foreign banks.
4:Which institution offers training to become a Company Secretary?

5:I would like to know the status of degrees awarded on the basis of correspondence. Would it be possible to get admission to an MBA programme on the basis of such a degree?

The Distance Education Council should be the guide in this matter. The three-year degree courses(correspondence) would be accepted as fulfilling the criterion of graduation for applying to an MBA programme. The student having done a full-time graduate programme might get preference, everything else remaining the same. Admissions to the reputed schools of management are highly competitive so prepare accordingly.
6:What are the future prospects after BA Economics Hons?

After graduation you can opt to take the Civil Services exam., Combined Defence Services exam (only for male candidates), the Probationary Officers exam. and other such competitive exams for entry into jobs directly. Entry into MBA,MTA,MCA,etc. courses is through entrance tests. Other options are accountancy (CA/CWA),Company Secretaryship,law,mass communication,etc. There would not be any specialist openings as an Economics graduate. Consider master’s at Delhi School of Economics, JNU or other highly reputed institutions for a career as an Economist or corporate sector placement or to join the Indian Economic Service.
7:What are the options as an Economist?

After postgraduation in Economics, options are in the Indian Economic Service, apex financial institutions like Reserve Bank of India in their Department of Economic Analysis and Policy, in industries, large commercial and industrial companies, teaching and research, banking, stockbroking, business journalism, credit rating agencies, international organizations, and consultancies.
8:I am in B.Com I and I want to crack the CAT by IIMs after graduation. I want the address of the British Council Delhi for their English Language courses.

National Stock Exchange of India Ltd (NSE) has evolved a testing and certification mechanism known as the National Stock Exchange’s Certification in Financial Markets (www.nseindia.com/content/ncfm/ncfm_modules.htm which is online fully automated. Practical knowledge and skills are tested in nine securities market related modules. These tests ensure that a person dealing with financial products has a minimum knowledge about them, the markets and regulations. You may use this route.

Various banks take exams of probationary officers from time to time. Exam is generally consists of aptitude test, numerical ability, english language and General Studies. So, prepare for it and keep watching Employment News for BSRB advertisements.

13:How can I join career in any financial institution { banks, insurance company, private or public}.Plz narrate in full.

Information provided by you is scanty. However, you may try P.O. exams conducted by BSRBs. With private players entering into the Insurance Sector the scope is increasing. Their recruitment procedure however is very informal. They usually take the promising candidates from local recruitment agencies. Please contact local agencies for such jobs.
