Q&A Medicine

1:I am interested in studying Hospital Management. What does it involve?

Hospital and healthcare managers or administrators have a wide range of responsibilities cover strategic planning, financial and human resource planning, maintenance of buildings, purchase and control of supplies, personnel management, etc. A few institutes offer the course only to medical graduates with experience in medicine while there are other institutions offering a postgraduate programme open to all graduates.

2:I am studying in Plus Two and want to pursue medicine. What are the other options in medicine besides MBBS? How can I apply for them?

Other than MBBS, other options in the medical line of work are dentistry, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nursing, veterinary science, optometry and medical technologies. These professionals also enjoy good placement opportunities. Nursing courses are locally advertised and you will have to apply against the advertisement or by approaching the nursing colleges directly. You must also remember that there are a number of all India level examinations for entry into medical courses which will be notified between December and April. Apply for those. However, it is not necessary that you close your mind to all other options because currently there are many interesting career choices beyond the traditional professions.

3:I completed 12th with P, C, B with 61%. My marks were 48% in Chemistry, 52% in Physics and 65% in Bio and 75% in English. Am I eligible in the general category for AFMC entrance test, BHU medical admission test and CBSE medical entrance test?

For admission to MBBS at Institute of Medical Science, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi you should have passed Intermediate, 10+2 or equivalent examination with a minimum of 50% marks (40% in case of SC/ST candidates) in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together. For AIPMT by CBSE Indian nationals who have passed in the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English individually and obtained a minimum of 50% taken together in PCB (40% for SC/ST/OBC candidates) at the qualifying exam (Plus Two) may apply. Anyway, it would be advisable to explore allied fields of medicine, paramedical courses or various other interesting options that abound on the career scene today.

4:What colleges come under CBSE Pre Medical Examination?

The All India Pre-Medical/ Pre-Dental Entrance Examination is conducted by CBSE with Preliminary Exam in April and Final examination in May for admission to 15% of the total seats for MBBS/ BDS courses in all medical/dental colleges run by the Union of India, State Governments, Municipal or other local authorities in India except in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.

Most people who are currently working as medical transcriptionists are graduates or postgraduates in the life science, nursing, pharmacy, and allied fields. However, training for medical transcription starts off even with those who have completed Plus Two. Since the subject matter of the work is medically oriented, a science background is preferred but then it is not an essential condition.
6:Is there an entrance test for the medical transcription course? Does MT have good future prospect in India or abroad?

While shortlisting students/trainees, many companies conduct a listening test and/or a typing test/ keyboard skills.

This service is in demand in most advanced countries where doctors/hospital/healthcare facilities have to maintain details of medical treatment to patients for administrative and insurance purposes. MT services from India are in demand as we offer good quality work at competitive prices. Keep in touch with newspapers for the latest developments. The permanently disabled person is trained to make best use of the able potentials in him to live an active and independent life. The professionally trained person who administers this treatment is known as physiotherapist. Physiotherapists restore mobility, alleviate pain and suffering and work to prevent permanent disability in patients. A physiotherapist works, as a member of rehabilitation team, in cooperation and consultation with specialists of medicine / surgery. He examines the patient thoroughly to determine the degree of incapacity sustained by the patient by administering muscle tests. He discusses his findings with the doctor and decides about the future course of treatment. He periodically reviews the treatment and make necessary alteration in the treatment, if required. The physiotherapist is always the source of inspiration to the patients. Therapists practice in hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation centers, and private offices that have specially equipped facilities. The job can be physically exhausting. In addition to standing for long periods of time, physiotherapists must move equipment and help patients turn, stand, or walk. Therapists usually work as part of a team, consisting of physicians, nurses, social workers, other therapists, and specialists.
