Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University came into existence in the year 1996 and it is a central university located in the city of Lucknow in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The university was given this name in honor of the Chief Architect of the Indian Constitution, Dr. Babasahed Bhimrao Ambedkar. The university is functioning with the objective of offering higher standards of research and instructional facilities. It is a residential university with its jurisdiction spread over the entire state of Uttar Pradesh.


Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University has different schools like school for management studies, school for physical sciences, school for home science, school of environmental sciences, school of legal studies, school of Ambedkar Studies, School of Bio-Science & Bio-Technology and School of Information Science & Technology. Each of these schools have at least one department and maximum four departments under its control to offer courses in different subjects. The university offers non-traditional and innovative courses at the Post Graduation level. In addition to PG courses in different subjects, some of the departments functioning under the university are offering research facilities leading to Ph. D in appropriate subjects. The campus of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University is called as Vidya Vihar campus and this campus is situated in the Rae Bareli Road at about 10 kms south of the Charbagh Railway Station in the city of Lucknow.
In addition to several other secondary objective, the primary objective of Babasaheb Bhimarao Ambedkar University is the promotion of advanced knowledge by offering research and instructional facilities in any branches of learning as the university might deem fit. The university also aims at making provisions for integrated course in the frontier and key areas of science & technology and related disciplines.
