Banaras Hindu University is one among the top universities in India with respect to research and educational output. The university is offering education through four interdisciplinary schools, four advanced centers, 140 departments, 16 faculties and three institutions and there are two campuses for the university. One campus is the main campus at Varanasi and another campus is the Rajiv Gandhi South campus. Therefore, the university has ensures the development of a collaborative atmosphere for learning and students will be able to get exposure to the best international practices and promotion of creativity and innovation.


Admission of students to the different courses offered by the university is done based on the rigorous All India Level Entrance Test. Apart from the aforesaid courses, Banaras Hindu University offers several other courses through its Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Institute of Medical Sciences, Institute of Technology and Institute of Environment & Sustainable Development. The university established its second campus Rajiv Gandhi South Campus at the city of Barkachha at about 75 kms from the city of Varanasi. The first educational courses in this campus began from the academic year 2006-07 with just six courses and now this campus is offering more than 25 courses. This campus offers education particularly to marginalized sections of people belonging to the region of Mirzapur and adjoining districts of northern Madhya Pradesh, Western Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
